Take Action! House Committee Proposes Title X Elimination in FY 2017, Senate Appropriations Committee Flat Funds Program

Take Action! Support Title X in FY 2017!

The House and Senate Appropriations Committees recently released their fiscal year (FY) 2017 Labor-HHS funding bills. The House bill completely eliminates Title X, while the Senate version flat funds the family planning program at $286.5 million.

Both proposals are absurd. Recent research suggests that $737 million is necessary to help ensure services are provided to women in need of subsidized family planning care, and additional support is likely required to respond to the Zika virus. Now is the time for strong support for Title X in both chambers.

Without robust funding, it will be nearly impossible for the family planning safety net to continue respond to the Zika virus, let alone prevent the 1 million unintended pregnancies, 501,000 unplanned births and 345,000 abortions that would occur annually without the Title X program. The time has come once again to engage with your members of Congress and the president and tell them to support increased funding for the nation's only dedicated source of family planning funds.

I am a Family Nurse Practitioner who works regularly with low-income women for prenatal care and spacing their families. Title X is critical for providing asfety net for those women to contorl when their next child is born, and will be especially ciritical with the possibility of increasing cases of Zika-affected pregnancies. I do not understand why partisan hatred must play out by inflicting hardship that is life-altering on poosr women and their families. You all need to really shoulder your responsibilities to imrpove the welfare of those you represent, not your party cheerleaders. We need pragmatic and intelligent leadership that looks objectively at what works, and Title X works.

Title X is an important program to provide routine cancer screening, contraception, STD screening and treatment and general health screenings for those who couldn't otherwise be able to afford it. Prevention of pregnancy and planning/spacing pregnancies is a win/win for everyone, especially now with the potential spread of the Zika Virus. Please do not eliminate Title X funding!

Greetings. We are TITLE X providers at Dubuque, IA. Last year alone we had over 2,000 visits related to family planning, which includes Birth Control, STD checking and treatment, Preventive Exams to Women and Men.It is important to remember that Title X program DOES NOT fund any abortions! We are preventing unintended pregnancies and also helping Americans to get healthier! For some of our clientele, this is the ONLY access to Health Care they will ever have! If this program gets defunded, not only a lot of people around the country will be without any kind of medical assistance, but also, all the clinics that work as Title X clinics will be forced to close their doors and lots of jobs will be lost! Think on the people that actually vote for you. Think on how much the government will save in Welfare, considering all the expenses a child born in a low income home brings to the government! Think on how many abortions we are preventing! WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!! It is NOT time to show to the other party how you are more powerful! It is time to unite! It is time to remember your are governing FOR THE PEOPLE. And it means, the PEOPLE has needs that MUST to come first. Health is a basic necessity. Please, do not take that away from millions of Americans around the country that need our services. Thank You!

We're a Title X provider - and have no ties whatsoever to abortion. These funds are critical for basic health care. We're in Texas - and a contracted family planning provider in Texas. This isn't an R/D world - it's care for people.

Title X funding is vital to maintaining comprehensive health care for women, educating youth as it relates to the reduction of teen pregnancy and STI prevention, and closing the gap of health disparities among economically disadvantage men and women of child bearing age. Please fund Title X!!

Title X funding; what a win/win situation. For every $1.00 spent $3.74 dollars are saved in providing medicaid services to unintended pregnancies. Prevention and education are the key elements in dealing with the problem of unintended pregnancies. For conservative members of congress, remember access to prophylactics helps prevent abortion. Please fully fund Title X.

The Title X program at my clinic has been serving our community for over 10 years, providing much needed preventative care and reproductive health services and supplies. The US unintended pregnancy rates are the lowest they have been in 30 years and the research shows this is mostly due to the use on Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive devices. Title X is vital to providing access to these LARC devices. Now with the current Zika situation, good and accessible reproductive health care is more important than ever. This program has continually proven its worth and should continue to be funded.

Title X is a vitally important program that helps support a diverse network of family planning providers that deliver affordable, high-quality reproductive health services. These services help women prevent unplanned pregnancies and save taxpayer dollars. The program is playing a particularly important role as public health officials respond to the emerging public health threat resulting from the Zika virus.
